Two programs to boost the supply and demand of Cloud Computing were approved, with an investment of 65 million. More than 13,000 SMEs will benefit.
The new call to improve wifi services in tourist accommodation, with 15 million.
The Council of Ministers has approved a package of measures aimed at promoting Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in SMEs. This set of aid programs is part of the specific plans of the Digital Agenda for Spain and will contribute to the development of the economy, the digital society, and employment.
The global budget of this initiative is 80 million euros and will be articulated through three calls. They will be executed by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Tourism, through the public entity Red.es. Part of the actions will be co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Cloud computing solutions
The Government devotes 65 million euros to stimulate the supply and demand of solutions in the cloud, through two calls for aid.
The first, ‘Aid for the adoption of cloud solutions’, is endowed with 40 million euros. From it, will benefit some 13,000 companies throughout Spain, which will receive between 625 and 15,000 euros.
The purpose of this action is to provide financing to SMEs to adopt solutions based on cloud computing technology. In this way, they can promote cost savings, accessibility, and energy efficiency of information systems.
Applicants can choose different solutions a catalog, with categories such as economic management, business management, Internet presence, e-commerce, virtual switchboard or user position, among others. They will receive financing worth between 50 and 80%. The global budget is distributed among the different communities and autonomous cities.
This strategy is complemented by the second call for ‘Aid for the development of cloud solutions’, which has a budget of 25 million euros and is intended for companies in the ICT sector of all autonomous communities.
The aim of the aids is to increase the offer of solutions in Software as a Service (SaaS) model of technological companies, in order to improve their competitiveness and positioning. Red.es will finance between 50% and 80% of the cost of each project, the amount that will be between a minimum of 12,500 euros and a maximum of 60,000. From the first call, still in execution, 145 SMEs from Andalusia, Castilla La Mancha, and Extremadura benefited.
Improvement of wifi installations in tourist accommodation
After more than 400 hotel establishments are already benefiting from the ‘Accommodation with Network’ program, the Government has approved a second call, which will cover more than 1,000 companies. It is endowed with a budget of 15 million euros and, on this occasion, it is open to all cities and autonomous communities.
It consists of a public call for financial aid for the deployment or improvement of wireless networks in hotel establishments (hotels, tourist accommodation, and campsites). The objective is to offer free and quality Internet access service to customers, from any part of the establishment, and to absorb the increase in mobile devices available per person. The grants will cover between 50% and 80% of each project, with a maximum of 25,000 euros and a minimum of 3,125 euros.
The various aid programs approved by the Council of Ministers are eligible for co-financing through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), whose purpose is to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union and correct the imbalances between their regions.
